Bayern Munich midfielder Alphonso Davies has launched a new online documentary series on NFT (National Film Board of Canada).
The internet show, dubbed The Next Generation, consists of five one-hour long episodes.
The first episode focuses on Davies’ quest to become a pro and the obstacles he has faced in building his relationship with his family.
The Montreal-born midfielder is hoping to join the Major League Soccer club in January after his transfer was agreed this summer.
“That he’s been able to tell his story in a true and personal way, I think that all the aspiring young athletes and young professionals should take the opportunity to do this,” FC Bayern said.
“The responsibility that accompanies youth sports stars is immense. As young athletes, we’re also witnesses to a powerful moral, educational and cultural transition. We have to honour Alphonso Davies by watching the series and learn from his journey.”
In his first interview since signing for the Seattle Sounders, Davies said the documentary allowed him to “put things in perspective”.
He added: “Watching my parents coming out of an abusive marriage and seeing me struggle through a lot has really helped me take a step forward in my career.”
Davies became the youngest Canadian male professional athlete when he signed a professional contract with MLS club Bayern Munich in June.
