‘Days of Our Lives’ will honor John Aniston, but character’s fate is up in the air
The final episodes of “Days of Our Lives” this year will honor John Aniston, who passed away Friday morning after a battle with cancer. But, as it turns out, the actor may not be in his final episodes.
According to EW.com, Michael Mendelsohn, who plays Aniston in the daytime soap, told “Entertainment Tonight” Thursday morning that he was surprised by Aniston’s passing.
Mendelsohn said “they said he had two weeks and if he didn’t make it, then the story would be over,” according to the report.
When asked whether the actor would be in his final moments on “Days of Our Lives,” Mendelsohn said he wasn’t sure if “he should make that decision,” but admitted that “I don’t know what’s going to happen with the storyline.”
“It has never really been confirmed,” he said.
“Days of Our Lives” aired its last episode on Sept. 13. The final scenes were shot and edited back in August.
“Days of Our Lives” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. It’s based on the original British series that launched in 1962. “Days” stars Erika Slezak (“All My Children”), Christopher Knight (“As the World Turns”), Minka Kelly (“Another World,” “The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Aniston.
The actor was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2012.
Aniston was married to Rebecca Schultze for 14 years until her death in 2009. They had two children together, John Jr. (born in 1977) and Amanda (born in 1984).
They remained together until his death.
This is the third death in an “Days” cast member in the past decade. Michael Greene (“The New Adventures of Old Christine”),
