El Segundo moves to sue L.A. over massive Santa Monica Bay sewage spill, foul odors
A cleanup crew works on the Santa Monica Bay sewage spill near the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2014. The massive sewage spill from a broken pump at the city’s wastewater plant on the Santa Monica Pier spilled out over the side of the pier, creating a foul-smelling slick that covered the pier and a stretch of beach up to half a mile long, officials said.
The man suspected of shooting at two LAPD officers at the Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday was detained on Sunday, two days after he was arrested, officials said.
The man, who is believed to have been armed with several weapons and wearing body armor and camouflage fatigues, was identified by authorities as 24-year-old Kenneth White, who is being held without bail at a county jail, officials said.
The officers were treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds and released from the hospital, officials said.
Authorities did not identify the officers.
The airport shooting is the second time this year that airport police officers were targeted in shootings.
Authorities said in July, a man carrying a rifle walked into Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International Airport and shot two officers, killing one.
A coroner’s report indicated that one of the officers was shot once in the arm and once in the back, and another was shot once in the back, officials said. A third officer suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital, officials said.
The gunman is also being sought by the FBI, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Internal Affairs Department, and the Los Angeles Police Department, which are conducting a joint investigation, officials said.
The gunman is also believed to have fired on other officers during the shooting, but officials said they could not provide additional details about his alleged actions.
Authorities said the man is described as a black male, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap, police officials said.
The airport is about 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles and about a mile
