He said that about 2,000 U.S. troops currently in Iraq will remain there to help with training, support and advising of Iraqi security forces.

“Only while we’re in Iraq, is there a possibility,” Trump said of ending the combat mission in Iraq. “Our coalition members have agreed that the United States will leave a residual force in Iraq.”

The President said that the United States “should not put our troops in the middle of somebody else’s civil war” in Syria.
