On the opening hole of Saturday’s CIMB Classic on the TPC Kuala Lumpur course, Jordan Spieth ended up two shots under after hitting his tee shot at the third hole from the tree to the right, which would have been his ball. But the Titleist ball that appeared to be laying at the end of the fairway was actually marked at the end of the fairway. As a result, Spieth received a two-shot penalty that will affect his finish the tournament.
Phil Mickelson had a similar experience later on Saturday, meaning he had to drop his shot from the rough, but instead of playing his ball, Mickelson was hit with a one-shot penalty for the unapproved tee shot.

Not a great day on the tee then to find out the ball’s even more affected than you were hoping… pic.twitter.com/ttvWfx2FH6 — Phil Mickelson (@PhilMickelson) October 7, 2017
